For the Zabaleen of Mokattam, education—a fundamental human right—is unfortunately often perceived as a privilege. Members of the community from all stages of life are affected.

Young children who lack the academic support they need, young adults who have had to drop out of high school, parents who feel helpless as adults struggling to read—all dream of a chance to continue their learning journey and build a future on their terms.

ROOTA’s work creates a measurable, life-changing impact for children who face systemic barriers to education. Following interviews with parents to better understand their children’s needs, ROOTA implemented targeted, community-based interventions.

A once-broken water station was restored, now providing safe drinking water to hundreds of children and families, reducing illness and improving school attendance. Four greenhouses have been established on previously neglected land, supplying fresh vegetables to families facing food insecurity and directly supporting 35 individuals while benefiting 250 more, many of them children with nutritional deficiencies that affect cognitive development. In just one year, 500 students received healthy meals through a summer program, and 750 individuals received essential winter blankets. Meanwhile, 30 women from the community—some overcoming learning challenges themselves—are now enrolled in university with four-year scholarships, pursuing degrees in early childhood education, psychology, finance, and more.

Each of these interventions addresses a crucial barrier to learning. Together, they form a powerful ecosystem of support—one that donors can directly sustain and expand. Contributions to ROOTA are not just charitable; they are catalytic investments in access, equity, and long-term educational inclusion.

To seed a larger movement, Egypt Migrations is contributing CAD 1,000 to ROOTA. We invite our followers, all those around the world who believe in education as a right, to match and multiply this gift.

Together, we aim to raise CAD 10,000 over the next 30 days, enough to cover classroom materials, specialized tutors, and one year of programming for dozens of Zabaleen learners. Every dollar you give is a vote for children’s futures and for a transnational community that cares. Donations are tax-deductible in Canada, Australia, the US, and the UK.
